Amazing Race Party


Host an Amazing Race Birthday Party for your teen ...


For my daughters 13th Birthday Party we had am awesome Amazing Race Birthday Party. Here is everything you need to plan one of your own...

Party Location

Choose a shopping center or mall that is in a relatively safe area and close to where you live. Parents can drop of their kids at a specific area (for example the main entrance) and pick them up again at another location (for example the local SPUR)  after the party has ended.

REMEMBER to take into consideration how busy the place will be on spesific days or times. It is better to have this party on a date and time when it won't be so crowded.

How to play

You can either divide everyone into 2 or 3 groups, or they can complete the challenges with a partner or everyone can be in the same group and complete the challenges together. 

Types of Challenges 




In the original reality show participants took part in different challenges at different places. For our party we used the same concept, except all the places was located inside or within walking distance of the shopping center.

I mainly used two types of challenges:
  • Route info to go to a new area of the shopping center (for example the food court or the parking area)
  • Detour to go to a specific shop or person.
  • Road block to do a specific task.
I planned out all the challenges and placed them in individual envelopes. They only received the next clue after they have completed the task from the previous clue.  If they needed additional things in order to complete a task (for example money or a pin) it was included in the envelope.


Example Challenges

Feel free to use the challenges I planned, or create your own based on the places located at the venue you will be using. If you know someone that works at a spesific place, you can create a clue where they must find that person and ask him/her a spesific question to receive their next clue from him/her. Here are some ideas to use:

Route info:

  • Parking area
  • Food court
  • Main shop
  • Specific floor
  • Specific entrance

Detour places

  • Clothing store
  • Bank
  • Photo copying store
  • Store that sells party decor
  • Store that sells cold drinks
  • Store that sells ice cream
  • Bookshop
  • Music store
  • Parcel counter
  • Perfume / makeup store

Road block

  • Take a photo with a maniken
  • Get a sample perfume
  • Get a business card or shop flyer
  • Buy a cold drink / ice cream
  • Withdraw money from a bank teller
  • Answer a trivia question about a spesific shop
  • Try on a outfit from a clothing store
  • Buy a pack of balloons
  • Collect a parcel
  • Print out a group photo that was taken
  • Find out who is the author of a specific book
  • Request a music store to play a specific song
  • Collect a straw
  • Collect a branded napkin

My party

Day: Saturday 20th May
Time: 15:00
Meeting place: Westpack entrance
  1. Go inside and find the party balloon section and buy a helium balloon for the birthday girl.
  2. Collect and return 10 supermarket trollies
  3. Answer the question: What year was the supermarket mentioned in a popular magazine?
  4. Collect a parcel from the parcel counter. The parcel contains a shopping bag.
  5. Use shopping bag to store everything you collect.
  6. Buy a cold drink for everyone from the kiosk.
  7. Go to optometrist and ask for a business card.
  8. Take a photo with a maniken at the nearest clothing store.
  9. Print out the photo at the copying shop.
  10. Buy a pack of Birthday candles.
  11. Buy an ice cream for everyone
  12. Ask for the latest flyer from the cell phone store.
  13. Collect a paxi parcel.Find glowsticks inside to create fun accessories to wear.
  14. Try on any outfit at a clothing store
  15. Collect a perfume sample from the chemist
  16. Withdraw money from the ATM
  17. Help someone to carry their groceries to their car
  18. Ask for a straw from a take away place
  19. Buy birthday cupcakes from the bakery
  20. Give a tip to any car guard of your choice.
  21. Go to a family diner and order something to eat.
  22. Get your face painted
  23. Ask the waiters to sing happy birthday
  24. Eat the cupcakes after the birthday girl had blown out the candles.
  25. Enjoy each other's company until it's time to go home.
